While many soccer fans are already familiar with Lamine Yamal, Arda Guler, and Joao Neves, Mexico’s young phenom Gilberto Mora is set to begin a campaign on soccer’s biggest stage at the 2026 World Cup.

Mora has already become the youngest player to make his international debut last summer at the CONCACAF Gold Cup, beating out the likes of Lamine Yamal and Pele. However, he’s out to prove age is just a number and that he can compete with the world’s best at the World Cup.

While Mexican fans may already be familiar with Mora thanks to his stellar play at Club Tijuana in Liga MX, soccer fans who primarily watch European soccer may head into this World Cup not knowing much about the 17-year-old.

Here’s the rundown on Mora, who is the youngest player on a 2026 World Cup roster and seems to poised for quite the international career with El Tri.

Who is Gilberto Mora

Mora heads into the 2026 World Cup as one of the highest-ceiling young talents in the competition’s entirety this year. Along with being the youngest player on a 2026 World Cup roster, Mora has had European teams’ interest for the past year.

For Mexico, Mora will most likely play in the attacking half of the midfield, or even higher up the field. Despite being young, El Tri has given him the keys to control around the field and help push them up the pitch.

Mora’s footwork, paired with his blazing pace, makes him extremely dangerous in the open field. If he does have a man, or men, on him, he has shown time and time again that he can get past just about anyone put in front of him. As a reminder, Mora has not yet reached his 18th birthday.

Here are some of Mora’s best skills, goals, and assists prior to the 2026 World Cup:
