South Shore team advances to MIAA state championship via forfeit

On Monday, June 8, the Cohasset High girls lacrosse clinched a trip to the MIAA state championship with a decisive win over Nashoba Valley Tech.

On Tuesday, June 9, the Cohasset boys lacrosse team joined them. Just not in the manner in the Skippers expected.

On Tuesday afternoon, the MIAA announced that Ipswich had forfeited its semifinal against Cohasset. No reason for the forfeit was provided.

“The MIAA has been informed by Ipswich High School that it is forfeiting its 2026 Division 4 Boys Lacrosse semifinal game,” read a release from MIAA assistant director Jim Clark.

The top-seeded Skippers were scheduled to face No. 4 Ipswich in the Division 4 semifinals. Cohasset advances to play in the state championship at Worcester State on Friday, June 12 or Saturday, June 13.

The Skippers (17-5) will play either No. 2 Nantucket (18-3) or No. 3 Manchester Essex (17-3) in the state final. That semifinal was played on Tuesday afternoon at Scituate.

Cohasset is seeking state-final redemption after falling to Norwell in last year’s Div. 4 final.
