WWE Raw takeaways: Je'Von Evans, Liv Morgan advance, both IC titles defended

WWE Raw on June 8, 2026 took place at Accor Arena in Paris, and featured an opening-round King of the Ring fatal four-way between Je’Von Evans, Seth Rollins, Ricky Saints and Talla Tonga.

This week’s show had King and Queen of the Ring tournament matches to go along with both men’s and women’s Intercontinental Championships on the line. The French crowd was loud as ever, chanting from beginning to end, creating a fun environment for the show. Oba Femi and Dominik Mysterio went at it on the mic ahead of their KOTR semifinal match, LA Knight told Jey Uso, “screw your family,” in a heated promo, and Chad Gable spent more time apologizing to the luchadors.

Here’s the top takeaways from this week’s show:

Queen of the Ring tournament continues

The first match of the show was a Queen of the Ring fatal four-way between Alexa Bliss, Chelsea Green, Becky Lynch and Liv Morgan.

Green has really been showing out lately as her character seems to be growing out of the silly, near-helpless version that we saw with Alba Fyre and Piper Niven by her side. She’s been putting on solid matches lately, and this was no different. Everyone really did a fantastic job in this match, and the ending was fun too.

Bliss countered Morgan’s Oblivion to hit Sister Abigail on Morgan, Lynch hit her Manhandle Slam on Bliss, Green hit Unprettier on Lynch, and then Morgan broke up the pin with a jackknife pin of her own to steal the three count. It was a damn good sequence.

Morgan advances to face the winner of Jade Cargill vs. Charlotte Flair vs. Sol Ruca vs. Lyra Valkyria. That semifinal winner will meet the winner of IYO SKY vs. Raquel Rodriguez in the finals.

There’s something to be said here about having Morgan, who holds the women’s title right now, advancing in a tournament typically built around elevating a newcomer or midcarder, but we’ll see how it plays out before giving full judgment.

Sol Ruca notches first women’s IC title defense

Lyra Valkyria got her request to face Sol Ruca for the women’s IC title.

This match was a fun one, with both wrestlers getting the chance to show off their athleticism and in-ring prowess. The crowd enjoyed the back-and-forth action, which included several unique reversals, including both countering each other’s signature moves. The ending came when Valkyria got her leg caught in the ropes after Ruca ducked a kick, and was then hit with a Sol Snatcher.

Ruca gets her first women’s IC title defense in what should be a strong reign. She’ll be a part of the QOTR tournament as well, and if we’re seeing Morgan advance as a champion, there’s no reason Ruca can’t either.

Penta retains men’s IC title, Chad Gable saves unmasked Rey Mysterio

The second title match of the show was for the men’s Intercontinental Championshp, with Penta putting his title on the line against Rey Mysterio.

The in-ring action in this show just got better with each match. Penta and Mysterio put on a show. Somehow, Mysterio continues to perform at the same level he did 20 years ago, making for a fun high-flying match. Mysterio got serious momentum with a couple of 619 connections, but Penta reversed his top-rope splash by getting his knees up, and then hitting a Mexican Destroyer for the win.

After the match, Mysterio and Penta were attacked by Ethan Page and Rusev. Dragon Lee attempted to make the save, but couldn’t keep Page and Rusev down. Rusev then ripped off Mysterio’s mask, prompting the arrival of Chad Gable, who rushed down the aisle as his new music blared. The pop was huge. Gable cleared the ring after multiple German suplexes and then returned Mysterio’s mask.

We got a banger of a match between Mysterio and Penta, and then Gable got the chance to capitalize on a big moment in front of a hot crowd. Gable has been getting huge pops since the mask vs. mask match against El Grande Americano, and WWE should definitely push him toward a title while the iron is hot.

King of the Ring tournament continues

The main event of this week’s show was a fatal four-way in the King of the Ring tournament between Je’Von Evans, Seth Rollins, Ricky Saints and Talla Tonga.

Starting off the match hot was Tonga. Saints attempted to form an alliance, but that quickly backfired on him. Rollins and Evans naturally had their moments as well, but things went off the rails when Tonga chokeslammed Evans onto the announce desk, and then Tonga was hit by a stomp from Rollins – two to be exact. Rollins then stomped Saints, but Austin Theory pulled the referee out to stop the count. Montez Ford appeared to take out Theory, but Bron Breakker hit Rollins with a spear in the ring.

Saints attempted to get the free pin on Rollins, but Evans recovered to hit Saints with an OG Cutter to get the big win and advance in the tournament.

This was a solid ending to a strong Raw. Evans moves on to face the winner of the stacked lineup between Finn Balor, Royce Keys, LA Knight and Jey Uso. That semifinal winner will go on to face the winner between Oba Femi and Dominik Mysterio.

This one should have been Evans or Saints, and WWE decided to have the “Young OG” move on to the next round. Both are guys who could benefit from the KOTR crown on their resume, and it looks like Evans is in a good position to make that happen. However, it’s likely he’ll have to get through Femi, who has been booked like an unstoppable force.
