Game 1 of the WCWS averaged 1.9 million viewers and peaked at 2.1 million viewers. It was the third-most-watched WCWS Finals Game 1 on record, per ESPN.
Texas won that game 7-3. The Longhorns put up five runs in the first inning thanks to a two-run home run from Katie Stewart. All three of the Red Raiders’ runs came from the longball, with a solo shot from Mihyia Davis in the first and a two-run blast from Mia Williams in the fifth.
Game 2 the next night averaged 2.5 million viewers and peaked at 3.0 million. It is the most-watched college softball game on record.
Just like in Game 1, Texas Tech got on the board first. Lauren Allred beat out an infield single that scored Davis.
Texas then scored three unanswered runs, including an insurance home run by Kayden Henry in the top of the seventh inning. The Longhorns held on for the 4-1 win to earn their second softball championship in a row.
