VOTE for the Morris/Sussex Softball Player of the Week for June 1-5

After another exciting week of the high school softball playoffs, it’s time to look back on the best performances.

Julia Fox, Morris Knolls
The senior second baseman went 3-for-4 with three RBIs in a 10-2 win over Mount Olive on June 2 in the North 1, Group 4 sectional semifinals. Fox drove in two runs with a single on June 4 in the sectional final, a 4-1 win for the Golden Eagles.
Anna Hendricks, Whippany Park
The freshman infielder went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and five RBIs as the Wildcats cruised past Brearley, 14-2, on June 2 in the North 2, Group 1 sectional semifinals. In her first season with Whippany Park, Hendricks finished with a .458 batting average.
Sophia Matullo, Roxbury
The sophomore outfielder drove in a run during a 4-2 win for the Gaels over Randolph in the North 1, Group 3 sectional semifinals on June 2. Matullo struck her 12th home run of the season in the sectional final on June 4 against Morris Hills. Matullo also stole a potential home run with a catch over the fence in a 2-0 win for the school’s seventh sectional championship.
Sydney Ribnicky, Roxbury
The senior pitcher struck out 13 batters in a 4-2 win over Randolph in the North 1, Group 3 sectional semifinals on June 2. On June 4, Ribnicky struck out eight in a one-hit shutout, a 2-0 win over Morris Hills for the program’s first sectional championship since 2022. Ribnicky also had three hits during the two games with two doubles in the semifinal and a solo home run in the sectional final.
Jessica Seprish, Morris Knolls
The sophomore pitcher struck out four batters across 1.2 innings of relief in a 10-2 win over Mount Olive in the North 1, Group 4 sectional semifinals on June 2. Seprish came into the sectional final on June 4 in relief after one out was recorded. Seprish went a career long 6.2 innings, allowing one hit and striking out nine in a 4-1 win over Passaic Tech.
Grace Waldrum, Hanover Park
The senior infielder went 2-for-2 with a pair of home runs and four RBIs in a 12-0 win over Rutherford in the North 2, Group 2 sectional semifinals. Waldrum went 2-for-5 with a run scored and an RBI, the 99th of her career, in a 5-4 loss to Governor Livingston in the sectional final on June 4.
Lyla Zusi, Morris Hills
The junior outfielder’s two-run single in the top of the fifth inning pushed Morris Hills to a 2-1 win over Montville in the North 1, Group 3 sectional semifinal on June 2. Zusi finished her junior season with a career-best 45 hits and 22 stolen bases.
