The Sacramento Kings‘ offseason is shaping up to be one of the more active in recent years, and Domantas Sabonis is at the center of it.
Jake Fischer of The Stein Line reported Saturday that league executives are projecting the three-time All-Star center to be made available as part of this summer’s trade landscape, placing him alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo and Ja Morant as names teams expect to hear about.
“Sacramento is known to be looking to shed some significant salary if it can this offseason and seems likely to field more interest in Sabonis than other veterans,” Fischer reported.
Sabonis is owed $45.5 million in 2026-27 and $48.6 million in 2027-28, a $94.1 million commitment across two seasons. Sacramento already has Zach LaVine exercising his $49 million player option for next season, and DeMar DeRozan at $25.7 million. The Kings want off at least one of those deals.
What acquiring Sabonis would actually cost and which teams have shown interest
Any team hoping for a salary dump should adjust expectations. Kings insider James Ham checked with a high-ranking league source Friday and was told a straight salary-dump trade would cost the acquiring team at minimum one first-round pick, and possibly two.

The Toronto Raptors remain the most frequently cited realistic suitor, a connection that dates to the February trade deadline when Sam Amick of The Athletic reported real Raptors interest.
The Phoenix Suns, Chicago Bulls, and Washington Wizards were also previously linked ahead of that deadline. None of those conversations produced a deal.
Sabonis is coming off a torn meniscus surgery that ended his season early. Before the injury he averaged 15.8 points, 11.4 rebounds, and 4.1 assists. He said publicly in April he is “very happy” in Sacramento, which complicates the optics but not necessarily the outcome.
The Kings traded De’Aaron Fox in February 2025, saying the right deal makes any player available.
The NBA Draft is June 23. Activity around Sabonis will accelerate before that date.
