Shinty: Cup finalists warm up with Premiership wins

A week before the Badenoch derby MacTavish Cup final, both finalists secured Mowi Premiership victories to strengthen their stranglehold at the top of the table.
Newtonmore edged it 2-1 at Fort William while Kingussie overwhelmed Oban Camanachd 7-0 at Mossfield.
Newly-promoted Col Glen registered their first ever Premiership points and victory when they overcame Lochaber 4-2 at Clachan of Glendaruel to exit the relegation zone. They are replaced by Skye, who went down 2-1 to Kinlochshiel in Portree.
However, Kyles remain bottom and pointless following a 2-1 defeat by Caberfeidh at Tighnabruich.
Brodie MacBean netted early in both halves to maintain Newtonmore’s six-point lead despite a Victor Smith penalty for Fort.
For the second time in three outings Kingussie, with two games in hand, rushed to an overwhelming half-time lead without reply and then completely dried up.
Thomas Borthwick and Roddy Young both scored doubles, supplemented by one each from Savio Genini, Dylan Borthwick and Ruaridh Anderson.
Kevin Ferguson gave Lochaber an early lead but Andrew Tyre in the first half and Andrew MacVicar along with a Sam Bulloch double in the second put Col Glen well in control before Finlay MacDonald’s late second for Lochaber.
Archie MacRae put Kinlochshiel ahead in the first half and Archie Gillies equalised in the second period before Jay MacRae’s added-time winner for Shiel.
Following a goalless first half, Farquhar MacRae got the breakthrough for Cabers. Ethan Kerr equalised and Cameron Grant netted the winner for the Strathpeffer side. Kyles remain bottom, still pointless.
Glasgow Mid Argyll defeated Bute 4-0 in the National Division at Yoker.
In the Ferguson Balliemore Cup, home side Kilmallie shocked competition favourites Glenurquhart in a 4-3 shootout victory following a 4-4 draw across 120 minutes.
Inverness from the area leagues surprised Beauly with a goalless 90 minutes at Braeview, but Beauly progressed 3-0 in extra time.
