For any third-year NBA player in his first-ever NBA Finals, it is hard to live up to expectations. A player like Victor Wembanyama is a special case because he has shattered all kinds of expectations for a young superstar like him.

Despite all the big moments he has had, there are clear signs that he is also struggling with inexperience in the NBA Finals. That was apparent during the dying embers of Game 2, where he committed a silly turnover when the San Antonio Spurs had a clear chance of getting the win.

Victor Wembanyama admits he needs to be more poised moving forward

Despite all the young Spurs players denying it, experience does matter in the NBA Finals. It has been made clear by this series against the New York Knicks that both Wembanyama and Stephon Castle continue to make silly mistakes.

They combined to make that costly turnover at the end, while De’Aaron Fox was screaming for the ball in the background. Of course, this kind of moment is a huge lesson for Wembanyama, as he is taking it to heart.

Wembanyama is the type of player to make mistakes and immediately learn from them. Unfortunately, now is not the time to do that because they are headed to New York City with a 2-0 disadvantage. Wemby blames himself for the loss, and he has vowed to be much better.

“I’m still very blurry, and that’s the whole problem, you know. I need to have more poise, more control over the game,” Wembanyama said when recalling the mistakes he made late in Game 2.

“I threw that one away. I messed up. We didn’t play great as a team. We needed to win that game. This game was ours, but at this point it’s done. Am I going to regret it? Yes, of course. Am I going to use that to fuel me and to fuel us next game? Absolutely.”

It has been difficult for such a young superstar to be at this stage. However, he has been hyped up as the generational prospect, so he will need to bounce back because that is expected from him.

That is the name of the game in the NBA Finals. They are a young team, but that is not an excuse, which they agree with. Now, they have to put their heads down and focus on Games 3 and 4, as they look to avoid a sweep.
