Falcons Recap: Stefon Diggs, Drake London, potential trade candidates

The NFL is constantly trying to keep fans engaged during the offseason, from the elongated schedule release to the top 100 players countdown, but things inevitably slow down in the summer months. That’s especially true for Atlanta Falcons fans.

The Falcons have never been NFL media darlings, and they certainly don’t receive the amount of coverage that teams like the Dallas Cowboys, New York Giants and Los Angeles Rams generally get. Nonetheless, we’ve rounded up the latest stories surrounding Atlanta as we await the next round of OTAs.

In today’s Falcons recap, we break down Drake London’s contract extension, examine two possible trade candidates and look at one free-agent wide receiver Atlanta could target.

Falcons named ideal landing spot for WR Stefon Diggs

CBS Sports released a new feature naming the best fits for the top remaining NFL free agents. Garrett Podell listed the Falcons as the best fit for four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs in 2026.

“Diggs could easily surpass both Jahan Dotson and Olamide Zaccheaus to be WR2 for the Atlanta Falcons in 2026 behind only Drake London,” wrote Podell. “New Falcons head coach Kevin Stefanski was an assistant coach with the Minnesota Vikings during Diggs’ entire career there, including working as the team’s offensive coordinator in both of their final seasons in Minnesota in 2019.”

Falcons give Drake London $141M extension, Bijan Robinson next?

The Falcons and wide receiver Drake London agreed to terms on a four-year, $141 million extension, NFL insiders reported on Tuesday. The deal includes $100 million in guaranteed money and could be worth up to $150 million in total incentives. London will make $35.25 million per season on his new deal, which is the third-highest average among wide receivers. London will make just slightly more than Vikings wide receiver Justin Jefferson on his new deal.

According to NFL insider Ian Rapoport, Falcons running back Bijan Robinson is likely next up for an extension

Bleacher Report names Mike Hughes as Falcons trade candidate

Bleacher Report’s Moe Moton made a case for cornerback Mike Hughes as the Falcons’ top trade candidate in 2026. With Avieon Terrell joining the roster, Moton thinks Hughes could become expendable.

“If Terrell is impressive through training camp, he should be on the field alongside his brother in the secondary, which would make Mike Hughes expendable before the final roster cutdown date on August 30,” wrote Moton. “Over the last two seasons with the Falcons, Hughes has started in 27 games. On the late-summer trade block, he could garner interest from cornerback-needy teams.”

ESPN lists Kyle Pitts as trade candidate in 2026

ESPN just put out a way-too-early list of potential trade deadline candidates for the 2026 season. Falcons tight end Kyle Pitts was among the names listed by Dan Graziano.

“If they don’t get him extended by July 15, and that rankles him and/or they struggle early in the season, teams will come asking about the availability of the uber-talented former top-10 pick, who doesn’t turn 26 until October,” wrote Graziano. “Baltimore lost a pair of tight ends — Isaiah Likely and Charlie Kolar — in free agency and could be looking for the kind of offense Pitts can generate.”

Zachariah Branch cleared of misdemeanor charges

On Wednesday, ESPN reported that both charges against the rookie wide receiver had been dropped. According to Branch’s lawyer, Georgia state prosecutors reviewed videos of the incident and decided to dismiss all charges:

Branch’s attorney, Kim Stephens, told ESPN on Wednesday that Georgia state prosecutors reviewed the evidence, including videos of the incident, and dismissed the charges. “Zachariah cooperated fully with law enforcement and did not commit a crime on the night of his arrest and never should have been arrested,” Stephens said. “We are glad this matter is over and that Mr. Branch’s excellent reputation and good name [are] restored.”Mark Schlabach, ESPN

Falcons UDFA could make roster, per CBS Sports

Falcons undrafted free agent James Brockermeyer has been impressing his coaches thus far at OTAs. Last week he filled in for Ryan Neuzil at center and drew the praise of offensive line coach Bill Callahan. CBS Sports’ Josh Edwards recently highlighted Brockermeyer as someone with a real shot to make the roster.

“The NFL Scouting Combine selection process snubbed Brockermeyer, and he should have been drafted,” wrote Edwards. “Atlanta gave him the fifth-highest practical guarantee ($230,000) among this year’s undrafted class. Ryan Neuzil has been a quality replacement at center post-Drew Dalman departure and Brockermeyer has not shown a lot of positional versatility to this point, so it may be difficult for him to carve a path onto the roster.”
