Liverpool did try to sign Endrick back in the summer. That didn’t work out – and now things have seen a wild development.

Liverpool made an attempt to sign Endrick back in the summer. Fabrizio Romano confirmed that recently as the Reds were one of a few clubs who felt his time at Real Madrid was up.

And they had good reason to believe that. Endrick has barely gotten opportunities at the club and spent the second half of last season out on loan with Lyon.

We think his time out there went seriously under the radar and was much, much better than people think. Enough that we’d have prioritised his arrival back in the summer.

The fact that Real Madrid also signed Carlos Espi from Levante suggested that Endrick just wouldn’t get a look-in but the Brazilian opted to stick it out. He’s still there and, up until recently, failing to get involved.

And then things took a wild turn.

Endrick steals the show

Real Madrid played out a ridiculous UEFA Champions League meeting with AS Roma on Wednesday evening. Los Blancos were 3-1 down with 10 minutes to play but somehow turned it around to win 4-3.

And Endrick played an enormous role in that. He got 31 minutes in Rome which is, quite astonishingly, 27 more minutes than he’s had in every other game this season combined.

He made the most of it. Endrick scored one with a header from a corner and got the sort-of-assist for Espi’s goal, also off a corner – as in, it was his effort at goal that the goalkeeper spilled for Espi to slot home.

So here we had decisive moments from Endrick, in a truly wild game, with what was his only serious football of the season so far. And that’s quite a twist as we imagine it will suddenly propel him back into contention.

It all looked over and done with for Endrick, as reports in Spain all suggested that he was destined to leave and unable to get any minutes. His lack of minutes, which again stood at four total minutes across all competitions, helped the player finally realise that he wasn’t going to get chances.

And then, out of nowhere, as a last throw of the dice, he proves his worth. We’ll see how things develop from here but what looked like a golden opportunity for Liverpool to sign Endrick suddenly looks a lot more muddled.
