Monday Night Football brought out the stars in New Orleans as the Saints suffered an ugly 45-24 loss. Franchise legend Alvin Kamara looked like his vintage self but left with a knee injury on a night when legendary former Saints special teams hero Steve Gleason watched alongside Peyton and Eli Manning.
Gleason, who has a statue outside of the Caesars Superdome, had jokes for the legendary NFL brothers including one on the enormous size of Peyton Manning’s forehead.
“Steve, how easy would it have been to block Peyton as a punter?” Eli Manning asked the former Saints punt blocker extraordinaire alongside football of his brother Peyton Manning attempting to coffin corner punt.

“Peyton, unfortunately for both of us, long before I’d hit the ball, I’d hit your forehead,” Gleason said, drawing laughter from the Manning duo.

Gleason blocked a punt in September 2006 against the Falcons in the Louisiana Superdome’s ‘Rebirth Game,’ its first since Hurricane Katrina struck the area. Gleason got a statue for his efforts as the play became a symbol of hope and rebirth for a city that was put through hell during the Category 3-5 hurricane. Manning is the son of Saints legend Archie Manning who has been known to take jokes about his appearance in stride.
The Saints Monday Night football loss caused coach Kellen Moore’s team to drop to 1-3 while fans breathed a sigh of relief over news on Chris Olave’s injury scare. Kamara had a night that was frustrating but also special as he thrilled fans with his pair of TD scores.
Gleason didn’t get to watch the Saints get a much needed win, but he did have fun calling the game with two legendary former players. The Saints have a long way to go to match the Manning brothers’ feats during their playing days, but will have another opportunity to move forward in their October 11 game at Minnesota.
