Joey Porter Jr. gets Dallas Cowboys debut decision after Steelers exit

Joey Porter Jr. is set to make his Dallas Cowboys debut against the Houston Texans on Sunday after being cleared to play following his move from the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Porter Jr. has not played this season after dealing with a back injury and contract issues, but he has now practised for two straight days without any reported problems.
The Cowboys acquired the cornerback after their 34-31 loss to the Baltimore Ravens left them looking for help in a depleted secondary. Dallas will travel to Houston on Sunday looking to avoid falling to 1-3.
Joey Porter Jr. expected to get snaps in Dallas Cowboys debut
Porter was put through his paces on Thursday shortly after arriving in Dallas and completing his physical. Coach Brian Schottenheimer had suggested that he could play if Friday’s practice went well.
That condition has now been met, with ESPN’s Todd Archer reporting that Porter carries no injury designation into Sunday’s game and will be available for his Cowboys debut.
Executive vice president Stephen Jones also expects the new addition to see the field.
“We actually think Joey Porter will get snaps,” Jones said on 105.3 The Fan on Friday.
The Cowboys moved quickly for Porter because of their need at cornerback, having already dealt with injuries and limited depth in the position group. The trade saw Dallas send a 2028 second-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round selection to Pittsburgh.
Porter had started 41 games across his first three NFL seasons and recorded three interceptions before the move. However, he now faces the challenge of stepping into a new defence after missing the entire preseason and the opening three games of the regular season.
Dallas will be hoping Porter can provide an immediate boost, but Sunday will be his first chance to show what he can offer in a Cowboys uniform.
