San Francisco 49ers All-Pro left tackle Trent Williams continues to serve as one of the most important pillars of the team’s offense. However, Denver Broncos defensive lineman Zach Allen believes Williams’ standing extends far beyond his role with the 49ers.
During Wednesday’s press conference ahead of the 49ers’ upcoming matchup against the Broncos, Allen offered the ultimate compliment to Williams, calling him the best tackle to ever play in the NFL.
“I have all the respect in the world for Trent. I, honestly, I know you see the debates about who’s the best. I think he’s the best tackle of all time,” Allen said via Parker Gabriel of The Denver Post.

The 49ers acquired Williams through a trade in 2020 as they looked to find a replacement for legendary offensive tackle Joe Staley. Since joining San Francisco, Williams has established himself as a dependable fixture on the team’s offensive line and has remained a key presence throughout his stint in the Bay Area.
Beyond his elite play on the field, Williams has also provided valuable veteran leadership. His presence has been closely associated with the 49ers’ sustained success, which includes multiple NFC Championship Game appearances and a trip to the Super Bowl. San Francisco rewarded Williams for his continued importance by giving him a two-year, $50 million extension this offseason. The contract ensured that the All-Pro left tackle remains under contract with the franchise through the 2027 season.
However, Allen’s glowing assessment of Williams comes at an important point in the 49ers’ season. Williams briefly left the team’s previous game after suffering a neck stinger, creating some concern about his availability for the upcoming matchup. Still, head coach Kyle Shanahan attempted to ease those concerns by indicating that Williams “should be good to go by Thursday,” according to David Lombardi.
Hopefully, Williams will be able to suit up against Denver, giving Allen and the Broncos a chance to test themselves against the player the defensive lineman considers the greatest tackle in NFL history.
