‘I’m not sure’: Caitlin Clark sends cryptic message after Indiana Fever’s 93-77 loss to Washington Mystics

Caitlin Clark has offered an optimistic assessment after the Indiana Fever suffered a 93-77 defeat to the Washington Mystics, insisting she does not expect another shooting night like it.

Indiana struggled badly from the field at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, making just 26 of 71 attempts as Washington controlled the game and scored 50 points in the paint.

Clark still led the Fever with 25 points, although she shot 6-for-20 from the floor. Kiki Iriafen and Shakira Austin both recorded double-doubles for the Mystics.

Clark was clearly frustrated by the performance but refused to view it as a sign of deeper problems for Indiana.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Clark admitted the Fever had one of their poorest shooting performances of the season before pointing to the team’s offensive production throughout the year.

“We shot the ball probably as poorly as we’ve shot it all year long,” Clark said. “And sometimes that’s just how the game of basketball goes. It feels like we just couldn’t throw it in the water. But at the same time, and that might happen in the playoffs, so figure it out. Find a way to win and find a way to get to the free-throw line.

“Find a way to get some easy buckets,” she added. “But at the same time, I’m not sure we’ll ever shoot it poorly the rest of the year like that. I mean, we’ve had the best offense in the league all year. And it just didn’t feel like us.”

Kelsey Mitchell continued her remarkable scoring run with 22 points, extending her streak of games with at least 20 points to 26. However, she also struggled, shooting 8-for-20.

Aliyah Boston finished with seven points, six rebounds and five assists after spending much of the contest in foul trouble.

Indiana now has little time to respond. The Fever will face the Minnesota Lynx on September 22 before travelling to Minnesota for the regular-season finale.

With the playoffs approaching, Clark’s message is clear: Indiana needs to rediscover its offence quickly.
