The Atlanta Braves found an absolute gem in rookie catcher Drake Baldwin in 2025. He had a highly successful first season, one that will not be forgotten anytime soon.

His season was so impressive that he found himself in the running for National League Rookie of the Year. At the conclusion of the season, Baldwin took home the award.

“ Drake Baldwin can now proudly say he is one of just three catchers over the past three-plus decades to be named Rookie of the Year in either the National or American League. Baldwin was named the 2025 Jackie Robinson NL Rookie of the Year via MLB Network’s live announcement on Monday night. He is the 10th Braves player to receive this honor”

Baldwin was off to another strong start this season for Atlanta. However, he has been sidelined for some time due to an oblique injury suffered in Miami.

“The Atlanta Braves put Drake Baldwin on the 10-day injured list Tuesday, with an MRI revealing that the star catcher has a Grade 1 right oblique strain. Baldwin, the reigning National League Rookie of the Year, was replaced by backup catcher Sandy Leon in the sixth inning of Monday’s 12-0 loss to the Miami Marlins. Manager Walt Weiss said Baldwin initially felt a slight discomfort after his second at-bat but not painful enough to warrant his removal,” ESPN wrote.

On Tuesday, before the Braves opened their series against the Toronto Blue Jays, manager Walt Weiss revealed when Baldwin is expected to return.

“Weiss said Baldwin could be activated during the next homestand, which runs June 16-21,” MLB.com’s Mark Bowman posted.

Getting Baldwin back will be huge for the Braves, as they have missed his bat near the top of the lineup. The second-year catcher has become a major force in Atlanta’s offense and helps keep the lineup flowing when he is in the order.

The Braves have received very little offensive production from the catching position since Baldwin was injured. Getting the reigning Rookie of the Year back in the lineup would provide a significant boost to Atlanta’s offense.
