New Steelers safety gets jersey number at mandatory minicamp

The Pittsburgh Steelers’ newly signed defender, former first-round safety Darnell Savage Jr., has received his new jersey number at mandatory minicamp.
Courtesy of footage provided by PennLive’s Nick Farabaugh, Savage was spotted wearing No. 31, a likely indicator of what number he’ll wear for the upcoming 2026 season.

Savage, who was drafted by Green Bay with the 21st overall pick in 2019, played with the Packers for five seasons before joining the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Playing for Jacksonville, the Washington Commanders, and the Buffalo Bills in 2025, Savage was expected to sign with the Steelers in March 2026, but the move was reportedly delayed due to an unresolved medical issue.
Savage now joins the Steelers’ defense as a strong depth piece in a loaded safety room featuring Jaquan Brisker, DeShon Elliott, Sebastian Castro, Jack Henderson, and seventh-round rookie Robert Spears-Jennings.
