NFL insider says the Vikings roster is in 'win-now' mode in 2026

The Minnesota Vikings were very aggressive last offseason as they looked to build a roster that was strong enough to support a young quarterback like J.J. McCarthy. They signed center Ryan Kelly, guard Will Fries, and defensive linemen Jonathan Allen and Javon Hargrave. They, on paper, had a Super Bowl roster before it all came crashing down with injuries and poor quarterback play.
Fast forward a year, and the Vikings still have a Super Bowl-worthy roster in the eyes of one NFL insider. Or at least they have one that is in ‘win-now’ mode.
MMQB’s Albert Breer was on The Dan Patrick Show on Monday and talked about the state of the team and the roster in general. Specifically, he commented on the roster and the quarterback competition that is ongoing between McCarthy and Kyler Murray.
Breer stated, “That roster needs to win now, no one’s on scholarship anymore. His (McCarthy) draft status doesn’t matter – whoever is the best player for us to win now right now is who Kevin O’Connell is going to pick.”

Most people on the outside looking in believe this is Kyler Murray’s competition to lose. The team has had McCarthy in the building for going on three years now, and when he is healthy enough to be on the field, the results have been less than impressive. Murray has had his ups and downs, but O’Connell getting someone with his skillset is going to be a fun thing to see unfold, potentially.
