The injury to Giannis Konstantelias has hit the BVB fanbase hard. Really hard. I spent much of the day yesterday in an emotional funk, fluctuating between devastation, anger at the universe, and just a general sense of emptiness.
Ole Book, however, has no time for “emotions”, whatever those are. He has gotten right back to work, scoping out how he will adapt his squad to the loss of his star signing. Two names have been bandied around on the interwebs today, those of Arsenal’s Ethan Nwaneri, and Zagłębie Lubin’s Marcel Reguła.
If you have spent any time in the Dort-o-sphere in the last few transfer windows, you know the club have made no secret of their interest in Nwaneri, but have not yet been able to make the terms work for the club or player. It seems Nwaneri is willing to play ball, but BVB will have to see if Arsenal are interested in making a suitable deal for their young attacking midfielder.
Reguła piques my interest a bit more. The 19-year-old Polish attacker is lesser known, and likely available for a permanent transfer at an agreeable fee.
The chatter across the interwebs today suggests that he would be an apt replacement for the style of Konstantelias, as a right-footed, tricky attacker with great technical ability. While Nwaneri may be more interested in competing with Karetsas, Reguła would be a better complement. If Reguła can cement himself in the squad, he could be a quick turn investment for BVB, or an opportunity to actually build quality squad depth. If not, his transfer fee would likely equate to something similar to Nwaneri’s loan fee. And come on, who doesn’t love a Pole in Black and Yellow? It’s heritage.
