Washington Commanders defensive end Dorance Armstrong has been suspended for the first game of the season for violating the NFL’s Personal Conduct Policy. He will be eligible to participate in all preseason activities, including playing in Washington’s preseason games.
His suspension begins on August 30, and he will be eligible for reinstatement on Mon. Sept. 14. This means he will miss Washington’s season opener against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sun. Sept. 13. However, he will be available for the Commanders’ game against the Dallas Cowboys on Sun. Sept. 20. Public records show that back in May of 2025, Armstrong was arrested in Frisco, Texas, for misdemeanor assault causing bodily injury as well as resisting arrest.
When Armstrong returns against the Cowboys in Week 2, it will be his first game since tearing his ACL against Dallas in Week 7 of last season. Prior to his torn ACL, Armstrong was having arguably the best season of his career with 5.5 sacks and seven tackles for loss in just seven games.
This year will be his third year with the Commanders and ninth season in the NFL. Armstrong spent the first six seasons of his career with Dallas, where he recorded a total of 23.5 sacks, 169 total tackles, and 48 quarterback hits. He has been a starter for most of his time with Washington and is expected to play a big role in the Commanders’ defensive rotation this season.
