There is perhaps no NBA superstar with more to prove than Luka Doncic, and his recent email to Los Angeles Lakers fans has given them cause to be optimistic.

It has now been a year and a half since Luka Doncic was traded in what is widely considered the worst deal in NBA history. But in two playoff appearances since, the Slovenian superstar hasn’t achieved much.

Doncic and the Los Angeles Lakers have finished with the 3rd and 4th seed respectively in the last two seasons. However, their only series win came when the Don was out injured.

Concerns over his durability and future availability were used to justify the trade. And with some fans worried about his long-term health, Luka’s recent words are sure to bring some comfort.

Luka Doncic says he is 100% healthy after taking some time off from basketball this offseason

Doncic has been playing professional basketball ever since he was 16 years old. And while that’s included serious minutes in Europe and the NBA, it also includes national team play in the offseason.

The Slovenian phenom announced he wouldn’t be playing with the team this summer. And with the new NBA season likely to be extremely pivotal in his career, Luka had some good news for Lakers fans.

“I took a real break from basketball the first few weeks after the season ended to rehab my body,” Doncic wrote. “My recovery went great, and I’m 100% healthy again.

“Taking some time away from basketball is something I do at the start of every offseason. It’s a different way to do things, but it works for me.

“When I let myself miss the games a little bit and try some new things, it only makes me more excited and motivated to get back to playing.”

Doncic suffered a hamstring strain that ended his 2025-26 NBA season. With a revamped Lakers roster for him to lead going into next year, the team will need Luka to be at 100% if they wish to achieve their goals.
