Yankees expected to give an update on Aaron Judge ahead of Dodgers series

The New York Yankees could receive one of their biggest pieces of news of the season before they even take the field against the defending World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers. According to Ken Rosenthal, the Yankees are expected to provide an update on superstar outfielder Aaron Judge today, and the news could have a major impact on the club’s MLB trade deadline strategy.

With just weeks remaining before the deadline, New York’s front office appears ready to adjust its plans depending on Judge’s outlook.

Judge’s Status Could Shape the Deadline

If the update on Judge is positive, Rosenthal reports the Yankees will aggressively pursue several areas of need.

The team’s primary targets would remain a catcher and a relief pitcher, while adding another starting pitcher could also remain on the table.

However, if Judge’s recovery isn’t progressing as hoped, the Yankees may have to rethink their priorities. In that scenario, adding a middle-of-the-order outfielder would become a much greater need than acquiring another starter.

Power Bat Could Become the Top Priority

Judge isn’t the only slugger missing from New York’s lineup. Giancarlo Stanton also remains sidelined, leaving the Yankees without two of their biggest right-handed power threats.

That lack of production has been noticeable, particularly during the club’s recent offensive struggles. If Judge is expected to miss additional time, the front office could shift its focus toward acquiring another impact bat capable of replacing some of the power currently missing from the lineup.

Finding a right-handed hitter who can lengthen the batting order may become just as important as improving the pitching staff.

Rotation Reinforcements Already on the Way

One reason the Yankees may be comfortable passing on another starting pitcher is the encouraging progress of two injured arms. Max Fried is scheduled to begin a minor league rehab assignment, while Carlos Rodón is reportedly not far behind in his own recovery.

If both starters return within the next few weeks, New York could once again boast one of the deepest rotations in baseball without making a blockbuster trade. That would allow the front office to devote more resources toward addressing the lineup and bullpen.

With a crucial series against the Dodgers approaching and the trade deadline rapidly closing in, the Yankees’ update on Aaron Judge could be one of the most significant announcements of their season.

Whether the news is encouraging or concerning, it appears certain to influence how aggressively New York attacks the trade market over the coming weeks.
