“Four years is a long way away”: Kane reflects on whether he’ll lead England at the 2030 World Cup

Harry Kane has said he is unsure whether he will still be involved when England next feature at the World Cup.
England exited the 2026 World Cup at the semi-finals after losing 2-1 to Atlanta on Wednesday. Thomas Tuchel’s side led with just minutes to go, before the world champions produced a stirring fightback to progress to the final.
It was the latest near miss for Kane, who has now captained England to twoWorld Cup semi-finals and two European Championship finals.
Kane will turn 33 this summer and is unsure whether he will still be around for the 2030 tournament, due to be hosted in Portugal, Spain, Morocco.
The England skipper has scored six goals at this summer’s tournament, becoming the Three Lions’ record scorer in World Cup history.
Reflecting on the late loss to Argentina, Kane said it is ‘too soon’ to discuss his World Cup future but admitted four years is a ‘long way away’.

“It’s too early to talk about that. For me, it’s about taking it year by year and how I feel,”said Kane.
“The national team is my pride and joy, it’s what I love to do most.
“Four years is a long way away and I’m 33 in the summer, but as you see with Leo [Messi], he’s still performing at the highest level [at 39].
“I never want to put a limit on these things. For now, it’s about processing another tough loss.”
England conclude their 2026 World Cup tournament against France in the third/fourth play-off on Saturday evening.
