Angels’ Mike Trout unexpectedly recruits LeBron James to join the 76ers amid NBA free agency

Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout wants LeBron James to join the Philadelphia 76ers instead of considering a way to stay in LA.
Trout and LeBron have been two of the biggest athletes in the Los Angeles area for the last decade, with Trout leading the Angels of Anaheim since 2011 and James for the Lakers since 2018.
However, Trout would rather see LeBron help his childhood NBA team win a championship rather than stay in Los Angeles or California.
Mike Trout wants LeBron James to take his talents to the Philadelphia 76ers
Trout was asked by the media at the 2026 MLB All-Star Game on where he thinks LeBron should sign this offseason, with the former three-time AL MVP naming the 76ers.
“I definitely want him to go to the Sixers. Because I think he has the best opportunity to win. If he wants to play golf, I have a nice little golf course down south.”
Trout grew up in New Jersey and supported Philadelphia sports teams like the Phillies in the MLB and the 76ers in the NBA.
While he’s become a legend in LA, he hopes James can help bring an NBA Championship back to Philadelphia for the first time since 1983.
Three Sixers players will influence LeBron James’ decision
A recent report confirmed that the 76ers have had their three stars in Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid, and Jaylen Brown, all of whom have had individual conversations with James in an attempt to recruit him.
How those conversations/pitches went will be crucial, especially with other teams also using notable players to reach out.
Giannis Antetokounmpo has reached out for a return to the Heat, while Draymond Green has publicly hung out multiple times with James and openly said he’s pitched him.
Embiid, Maxey, and Brown could play a larger role in this decision than they initially anticipated. Their conversations will help James ascertain if he can truly add the x-factor they need to get over the hump.
With Bob Myers publicly pitching on Rich Paul’s podcast and James’ childhood ties to new 76ers GM Mike Gansey, Trout’s pitch might be another boost that encourages James to move to Philadelphia.
