Eagles Biggest Question Has to Do With Jalen Carter Again

If things are similar to how they’ve been in years past, the Philadelphia Eagles will have one of the better defenses in the NFL. The only question that remains for this defense at the moment is what it will do with Jalen Carter.
Specifically, that puts a lot more focus on the front office, which has to decide what it thinks Carter’s future looks like in Philadelphia.
There’s no debate that the young man is one of the better defensive players in the NFL, but if the Eagles don’t want to pay him, there really isn’t too much that can be done. Ultimately, the Eagles have to decide what they want to do with the young man and hope things work out either way.
That’s why NFL.com recently questioned what will happen to Carter and how that will impact the remainder of the team. While the Eagles’ defense is strong on paper, that Carter question is a big one.
“Jalen Carter seems to be on the brink of becoming perhaps the league’s elite defensive tackle. Hence, he’s seeking a seismic extension, which has led to trade speculation. How it all plays out is sure to be headline fodder, and it wouldn’t feel right to be without some melodrama in Philly. Furthermore, defensive coordinator Vic Fangio is back, and losing Carter would be a magnificent blow.
“A potential boon will be the additions of cornerback Tariq Woolen and pass rusher Jonathan Greenard. No matter the pedigree, not all players fit into Fangio’s scheme (see: Bryce Huff, Jalen Ramsey, Jevon Holland, etc.). Woolen is a physically gifted cover man who made his share of questionable plays with the Seahawks. It will be interesting seeing how the newbies fit into Fangio’s scheme, but the prevailing matter at hand for the defense is Carter’s future,” NFL.com wrote.
I’ve said it before, and I’ll continue to say it, but I really don’t understand how the Eagles could look at their roster right now, understanding that they have a chance to win a Super Bowl, and not want to keep a guy like Carter around.
Unless there’s stuff going on behind the scenes that we don’t know about, it just doesn’t make any sense to me. We’re talking about one of the better players in the NFL here, and with how much Howie Roseman likes stars, I just can’t get behind the idea of moving on from him.
