With Kylian Mbappe, Michael Olise, Desire Doue, Bradley Barcola and Ousmane Dembele in their ranks, France entered the semifinal against Spain last night as overwhelming favourites.

La Roja, however, dismantled the French side with ease over ninety minutes scoring two goals, maintaining a clean sheet and not giving the favourites a chance to mount a comeback.

With the win, the Spanish national team enter only their second World Cup final in history and the first final since their title in 2010. They will face the winner of Argentina and England for the trophy this weekend.

Eric Garcia trolls a taunt

At the end of the game, when Spain’s players were making their way out of the venue, an Argentine journalist took the opportunity to take a dig at La Roja, especially directed at Eric Garcia.

The journalist taunted the Barcelona player that they would have a difficult time when they potentially faced Argentina in the final, attempting to instil fear in the minds of the players.

“Watch out, you guys are screwed,” he said via Diario AS.

Garcia, however, did not hold back and hit out at the journalist jovially in return, emphasising that if any team had to be scared it was Argentina.

“You’re the one who’s screwed, you’re the one who’s screwed,” he said, walking off nonchalantly.

Barcelona’s overwhelming representation in the final

Lamine Yamal, Pau Cubarsi and Dani Olmo have been regular starters for Spain in the event, while Pedri and Ferran Torres continue to have a role to play in every clash at least off the bench.

Joan Garcia, Gavi and Eric Garcia are also in the contingent and represent options for the manager. While they have not had too many minutes, they are an essential part of the camp and the team’s dynamics.

The World Cup final, thus, will have at least eight Barcelona players, and possibly even nine if Anthony Gordon and England make it through.

If Argentina make it through instead, there will not be any additional active Barcelona star, but Lionel Messi is nothing less.
