Happy Monday, Spurs fans! Want another poll? ‘Course ya do. This time we’re going in a slightly different direction.
One of the unexpected effects of this year’s expanded tournament has been a series of delightful encounters with various international fan bases, and how they’ve formed connections with the host nations, and cheekily ingratiated themselves into American, Mexican, and Canadian culture.
Who can forget Scotland’s Tartan Army literally drinking Boston out of beer before taking over a Red Sox baseball game, and plopping traffic cones on the heads of all the statues? Or Netherlands fans swamping the roads in a sea of orange as they Hup-Hup-Hupped around? There’s the Congo’s sheer enthusiasm (along with the Statue Guy imitating a beloved former political icon), Norway’s Scandinavian rowing thing (except for, y’know, that one guy who held on principle and historical accuracy), and Mexico’s bromance with visiting Japanese fans? Or any fanbase discovering the joys of American food, especially Waffle House?
God, there were so many. So let’s take a quick poll — which World Cup fanbase has been the most fun during this summer’s tournament?
