Alexis Mac Allister Scores Opener In Argentina 3-1 Win

Although FIFA countinues to be a massively corrupt organization—one that happily bends both the knee and the rules for autocrats—and their flagship competition—the World Cup—should be boycotted, we can still be happy for Liverpool players when they do the business in the tournament and help their team advance.

So, we can be happy that Alexis Mac Allister opened up the scoring in Argentina’s 3-1, extra time win. The Liverpool midfielder nodded home a Lionel Messi corner to put the reigning World Cup champions in front after just 10 minutes.

The win takes Argentina to the semifinals, keeping their hopes of becoming the first back-to-back World Cup winners since Brazil accomplished the feat in 1958 and 1962.

However, standing in their way from another final appearance is an unfortunately good and seemingly competent England squad. The last time the two nations faced off this deep into the tournament was the infamous “Hand of God” match, from which England as a footballing nation in general, and Peter Shilton in particular, never recovered.

If FIFA doesn’t allow some similar rule-bending goal from yet another diminutive Argentinian striker (that also humiliates England’s #1 and his tiny, outstretched arms), what are we even doing here? What good is a massively corrupt organization, one that cares little about sporting integrity—or anything, really, other than collecting bribes—if we can’t humiliate the worst fan base in world football while they fume about the injustice of it all?
