Switzerland vs. Argentina’s quarterfinal game has already ended in heartbreak for Breel Embolo.

Argentina may have taken an early lead because of Mac Allister’s 10th-minute header from a stunning Lionel Messi corner, but Switzerland found an equalizer in the second half.

However, the Swiss couldn’t celebrate Dan Ndoye’s goal for long due to Breel Embolo’s sending off just minutes later.

Breel Embolo’s sending off results in a ruthless reaction from soccer fans

For context, Embolo was already on a yellow card for a rough challenge on Leandro Paredes in the first half. In an attempt to get back at the Argentine midfielder, Embolo tried diving when being defended by him.

Initially, Paredes was called for a foul and a yellow card, but after a VAR review, it was converted to a second yellow card for Embolo as the Swiss attacker broke into tears after being sent off.

Despite Embolo’s emotional reaction, soccer fans on X didn’t fall for it. Instead, they brutally called him out for diving.

“So stupid! Why did he dive?” a fan asked. While another added, “Yeah, can’t feel bad for him.”

“Why did he dive? It wasn’t even necessary,” a third fan pointed out. A fourth fan stated, “What was he even thinking?”

“Came here just to see the idiots saying it’s not a simulation and that it’s rigged,” a fifth fan hit out at Argentina haters.

To be fair, it may seem like an unfair decision at first, but on a closer look, it was a clear dive and the VAR most certainly made the correct decision. At the time of writing, the two sides are still in a deadlock at 1-1, with extra time looking imminent.
