Jaguars' Brenton Strange flies under-the-radar in tight end rankings

Jacksonville Jaguars’ tight end Brenton Strange still seems to be flying under the radar in league circles.

ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler continues to put together his rankings of the top 10 players at each position group, and what makes these rankings unique is that a total of 70 NFL execs, coaches, and scouts were the voters. Other elements, such as research, interviews, and film analysis by Matt Bowen, factor in as well.

With all of that input and information taken into account, Fowler puts together his top 10 rankings, lists the honorable mentions, and those who received votes.

At the very end of the ‘received votes’ category was Strange.

While we don’t know specifics, of the 70 voters who put their top 10 lists together, at least one had Stange ranked.

Jaguars‘ TE Brenton Strange flying under the radar

Missed time due to injury last season likely impacted Strange’s spot in these rankings. However, he still remained efficient and effective with the opportunities that came his way.

Despite playing in only 12 games, he totaled 540 receiving yards. Had Strange played a full season, he would have been on pace to be one of the more productive tight ends in the NFL. His presence brings stability to the Jaguars’ passing game.

But beyond his passing game production, his versatility and willingness as a blocker allows him to impact the game in a variety of ways. This further opens up the playbook with Coen and brings a level of unpredictability to the Jaguars’ offense with Strange able to wear so many hats.

And with the addition of Nate Boerkircher in the NFL draft, that opens up even more opportunities for how Coen utilizes Strange this season.

The Jaguars recently signed Strange to a three-year extension worth $36 million.
