Tahj Chambers’ tenure with the Colts
The Colts signed Chambers following the 2026 NFL draft as an undrafted free agent.
What to know about Tahj Chambers
After four seasons at Missouri State, Chambers made the jump to the SEC in 2026. There, Chambers filled a rotational role, playing 380 snaps over the course of the season. He held opponents to a modest 8.8 yards per catch in coverage, forcing two pass breakups. Quarterbacks had a below-average passer rating of 86.6 when targeting him.
Chambers graded out well against the run by PFF’s metrics, and he generated nine pressures as a blitzer. Not to be overlooked either, but Chambers is a very experienced special teams player, with 614 career snaps at the college level.
Looking ahead to 2026 for Tahj Chambers
There is still a lot to be determined at the linebacker position for the Colts, including who starts at this position — presumably next to CJ Allen — and what the rest of the depth chart looks like.
That said, Chambers has a number of players to jump if he’s going to make this team.
Along with Allen, we saw Bryce Boettcher, Akeem Davis-Gaither, and Jaylon Carlies all take reps with the starting defense during offseason programs. Austin Ajiake has shown he can help on special teams, while fellow UDFA West Weeks is a player the Colts paid a premium for during undrafted free agency.
Potentially adding to the challenge is that last year, the Colts kept only four linebackers on the initial 53-man roster, although most teams do keep five.
Chambers showing that he can contribute to multiple special teams phases — since that is where his playing time would most likely come as a rookie — will be crucial if he’s going to make any sort of roster push. However, while not impossible, he’s got an uphill battle when it comes to making the final roster.
