Former Clemson guard recovering after medical emergency

Former Tigers point guard Rod Hall is recovering after suffering a medical emergency during an alumni game at his high school, according to a GoFundMe shared by his family. Hall’s family said the 33-year-old has been diagnosed with a “serious neurological condition” and is asking for support as he continues his recovery.

Hall played for Clemson from 2011 to 2015 and became one of the steadier guards of the early Brad Brownell era. Hall brought toughness, defense, and physicality.

Hall had already played in 98 games and logged 2,636 minutes by Junior year. He led Clemson’s active players at the time with 642 career points and 287 assists, while starting all 36 games during the 2013-14 season.

Hall averaged a career-high 9.7 points per game that year, led Clemson with 143 assists and reached double figures 21 times after doing so only four times over his first two seasons. He also helped Clemson lead the ACC in free-throw percentage for the first time in program history.

He had ice in his veins in the big moments as he scored 20 points in a win over NC State, had 18 against SMU in the NIT semifinals, and put up 16 points in a double-overtime win over Maryland, including 10 in the two overtime periods.

Hall’s family is asking for donations as he recovers, and for Clemson fans, this is one of those moments where the old box scores and career stats take a back seat. Hall gave Clemson four years of toughness, leadership and steady guard play.
