Travis Kelce’s 1587 Prime Legal Fight Resurfaces Days After Taylor Swift Wedding

Travis Kelce’s wedding week included a separate court fight over 1587 Prime, the Kansas City steakhouse he co-founded with Patrick Mahomes.
The U.S. Sun said Kelce and Mahomes have asked a federal judge to dismiss a trademark infringement lawsuit filed by 1587 Sneakers Inc., a footwear company that says the restaurant’s name infringes on its “1587” brand.
The restaurant uses “1587” because it combines Mahomes’ No. 15 jersey and Kelce’s No. 87 jersey, while 1587 Sneakers says its name refers to the year Filipino sailors first arrived in what is now the United States.
TMZ said the latest fight is about whether the case belongs in New York federal court. Kelce and Mahomes argue they do not have enough ties to New York, while the sneaker company points to national advertising and business promotion.

1587 Sneakers filed the lawsuit in February in the Southern District of New York. The complaint names Kelce, Mahomes, Noble 33 and several 1587 Prime entities as defendants.
The sneaker company says it began selling shoes and apparel under the 1587 name in April 2023, before 1587 Prime opened in Kansas City in September 2025. It claims customers have contacted 1587 Sneakers believing the footwear brand is connected to the restaurant or the two Chiefs stars.
The New Dispute Centers on New York Jurisdiction

Kelce and Mahomes are arguing that the New York court should not hear the case.
Their attorneys say neither player lives in New York, the restaurant operates in Missouri and the dispute centers on a Kansas City business. The sneaker company says the athletes’ national marketing and commercial activity give the New York court enough basis to keep the lawsuit.
The U.S. Sun said no ruling has been issued on the motion to dismiss. Earlier in the case, a federal judge declined to grant an emergency order that would have temporarily blocked use of the 1587 name while the lawsuit continued.
1587 Sneakers Says the Restaurant Also Sells Apparel
The Fashion Law said 1587 Sneakers’ claims center partly on apparel, with the company alleging that 1587 Prime has used the number on clothing and related merchandise.
That merchandise allegation is important because 1587 Prime’s main business is restaurant service, while 1587 Sneakers sells footwear and apparel. The sneaker company argues the clothing overlap increases the risk that consumers will think the two brands are connected.
People previously noted that the sneaker company’s federal trademark request had not been approved at the time of its February report, but the lawsuit also claims earlier commercial use of the 1587 name.
1587 Prime Opened in Kansas City in 2025

1587 Prime is located inside the Loews Kansas City Hotel. The restaurant’s official site describes it as a Kansas City steakhouse co-founded by Mahomes and Kelce in partnership with Noble 33.
The steakhouse opened in September 2025 after being announced as a high-end restaurant project from the Chiefs teammates and the hospitality group. ABC’s Good Morning America reported during the original announcement that the name was a nod to the players’ jersey numbers.
People said in February that 1587 Sneakers was seeking damages and an order requiring 1587 Prime to stop using the name and stop selling clothing under the disputed branding.
The Case Remains Unresolved
A federal judge rejected 1587 Sneakers’ earlier request for emergency relief in March. KMBC said U.S. District Judge Naomi Reice Buchwald declined to sign a proposed temporary restraining order that would have blocked the restaurant from using “1587” or “1587 Prime” while the case proceeded.
The judge said the complaint did not clearly establish personal jurisdiction in New York or show that the case properly belonged in that district. The order did not dismiss the lawsuit.
The case is still pending, with Kelce and Mahomes fighting the New York venue and 1587 Sneakers pressing its trademark claims over the shared number and restaurant merchandise.
