Standout Washington softball freshman named Northwoods League All-Star

Members of the Washington Huskies have dominated the Northwoods Softball League in Wisconsin this summer, and on Monday night, another member of coach Heather Tarr’s roster was named to the collegiate summer league’s first annual all-star game.
After a breakout freshman season on Montlake, catcher Ally Hetzel, a local product of Mount Si High School in Snoqualmie, Washington, has continued her hot streak with the Grand Forks and was named a Northwoods League All-Star.
Over 16 games with the Spitfires, Hetzel, who mainly acted as Tarr’s designated player during her first year, has been dominant against top-level competition. She has compiled a .452 batting average and 1.288 OPS with 19 hits, a home run, 19 runs scored, 10 runs batted in, 7 walks, and 3 stolen bases to help lift her team into a tie for second place in the league.
Hetzel’s strong summer should be a promising building block for the remainder of her college career after putting together a .316 batting average and 1.016 OPS during her freshman year, tallying 35 hits, 6 home runs, 23 RBI, 21 runs scored, and 22 walks.
With infielders Alexis DeBoer and Giselle Alvarez headlining the order, while catcher Jadyn Glab and Hetzel’s classmate, outfielder Kaycie Burdick, the Huskies have one of the best lineups in the Big Ten. If the rising sophomore can continue her production in 2027, Tarr and the Huskies could be looking at a much deeper run towards the Women’s College World Series next spring.
Hetzel joins three of her teammates in the inaugural contest: outfielder Ava Carroll and pitcher Ryan Maddox of the Madison Night Mares, and infielder Marley Teasley of the Wausau Ignite.
