Barcelona sign two players from Tenerife – including the ‘New Pedri’

FC Barcelona have signed two young players from CD Tenerife, one of which has drawn comparisons to another Canary Islands footballer – Pedri. Both will start playing for Barça Atlètic, according to a new report.
The Catalans signed Jony Hernández – the supposed “new Pedri” – for 500k euro. Tenerife retain 25% rights of a future sale. Additional bonuses may be paid based on him hitting certain milestones, which could include players going the other way.
The 18-year-old winger will come alongside 22-year-old Juan Ybarra, a midfielder. Ybarra had been a key piece for Tenerife B and has made his debut with the senior team. Despite being young, he is a bit on the older side for Barcelona’s B team. Barça Atlètic sometimes sign slightly older players purely for additional depth and leadership.
Hernández is left-footed and plays on the right, known for his skill and ability. He has gone from youth teams to the B team to debuting for the senior team extremely quickly. Like Pedri, he was born and raised in the Canary Islands and played for Las Palmas’s youth team at one point. Like Pedri, he’s known as a skilled winger who may have potential as a midfielder.
Hernández may have shone on Barcelona’s radar when he impressed against them in a youth match. Barça hope they have uncovered another diamond in the rough.
