The Indiana Fever delivered one of their most complete performances of the season Sunday, defeating the Las Vegas Aces 84-68 despite playing without Caitlin Clark. Afterward, head coach Stephanie White praised several aspects of Indiana’s effort during her locker room speech. But one particular comment quickly sparked conversation among Fever fans.
Stephanie White celebrates Fever’s season-low turnovers
Indiana’s victory featured one of the cleanest offensive performances of the season. The Fever committed just seven turnovers, their lowest total of the year, while controlling the game from start to finish behind 27 points from Kelsey Mitchell and an 18-point, 10-rebound double-double from Aliyah Boston.
Addressing the team after the game, White made sure to highlight the number.
“We did a lot of great things,” White told her players.
“I’m sure this has to be a season-low: seven turnovers.”
“You take care of the ball, you give yourself a chance, right?”
For White, it was another reminder of an emphasis she’s repeated throughout the season. Indiana entered Sunday’s game averaging more than 15 turnovers per contest, one of the highest marks in the WNBA.

Fans immediately connected the comment to Caitlin Clark
While White’s message focused on ball security, some fans quickly wondered if it carried another meaning. With Clark sidelined because of a back injury, social media users pointed out that the Fever recorded their fewest turnovers of the season without their star point guard on the floor.
Comments ranged from fans asking if White was sending a subtle message to others insisting she was simply praising the team’s execution.
The discussion gained traction because Clark currently leads the WNBA in turnovers per game, a statistic that has frequently been part of conversations surrounding her aggressive, playmaking style.
White has consistently emphasized taking care of the basketball
Whether Clark is in the lineup or not, White has repeatedly stressed that limiting turnovers is one of the keys to Indiana’s success. Earlier this season, she pointed to turnovers after losses and praised the team in games when it protected the basketball.
Sunday’s postgame comments fit that same pattern. While some fans interpreted the remarks as a reference to Clark’s absence, White did not mention Clark during her speech or suggest her comments were directed at any individual player.
Instead, the coach highlighted a statistical improvement that played a major role in one of Indiana’s biggest wins of the season. With Clark expected to return soon, the Fever will now try to combine Sunday’s disciplined ball security with the offensive firepower their All-Star guard brings when she’s back on the floor.
