The Pittsburgh Steelers’ home of Acrisure Stadium was one of the more maligned around the NFL over the last two seasons due to the condition of the field.

Last season against the Cleveland Browns, kicker Chris Boswell slipped during a kick due to the poor field conditions, and Miles Killebrew was lost for the season due to an injury largely blamed on the field. The Steelers share the stadium with the University of Pittsburgh, meaning on multiple occasions, games are played on back to back days, Additionally, the WPIAL holds playoff games at the stadium as well late in the NFL regular season. Because of the worn out field, the surface has been replaced, per Precision Turf on X.

Pittsburgh will play its first game on the new surface on August 13 against the Green Bay Packers to open the preseason. They’ll also host the New York Jets in Week 2 of the preseason before closing exhibition play in Buffalo against the Bills. The Steelers will then host the Atlanta Falcons in Week 1. The last time Pittsburgh and Atlanta faced off in Week 1 at Acrisure Stadium, Rashard Mendenhall ran for a 50-yard touchdown in overtime to win the game with Dennis Dixon under center.
