Retired NFL QB predicts a third MVP award for Patrick Mahomes in 2026

During a recent appearance on ‘The Rich Eisen Show,‘ retired NFL quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick said he believes Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is the favorite to win his third league MVP in 2026.
“I kind of think that he’s the favorite in my mind to win MVP this year, because you know the injury and how much he’s had to put into getting healthy this offseason, obviously the level that we’ve seen him play at, but the last few years that out, starting to creep in a little bit, people talking about him, maybe he’s not the top quarterback anymore.” said Fitzpatrick, “Yes, he has the rings, but look at these guys who maybe outplayed him the last few years. I think there’s enough of a narrative there that’s going to drive him even more, and I do think sometimes having to hit reset, the focus that he has put on rehabbing his body and getting ready, I see him as my favorite for MVP this season.”
Six NFL players have won three or more MVP awards in their careers, including Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Brett Favre, Jim Brown, and Johnny Unitas. Mahomes hopes to add his name to that category with his potential third MVP award in the 2026 season if Fitzpatrick’s prediction comes true.
Mahomes finished the 2025 season with 22 touchdown passes and 11 interceptions in 14 games before the knee injury. He also rushed for 422 yards and five touchdowns. He was named an alternate on the AFC Pro Bowl team before his season was cut short.
