How West Ottawa's Lily Delcalzo transformed her game to become Lacrosse Player of the Year

When Lily Delcalzo was at the top of her game on the field, the ball found itself in the goal.
But when the West Ottawa junior was on her game off the field, the entire team came together.
That balance of on-field success and off-field leadership led Delcalzo to be selected as the Holland Sentinel Girls Lacrosse Player of the Year.
“Lily was a captain this year and led with such integrity and intensity. She showed up every game ready to lead her team by example with tenacity and intention. Her lacrosse IQ makes her invaluable, and who she is as a person makes her such an asset to our program,” West Ottawa coach Brooke Wathen said.
Delcalzo played in the midfield. She was all-conference after winning 104 draw controls, scoring 26 goals, dishing out 25 assists and grabbing 55 ground balls.
Wathen said the example she set for the team is what set her apart.
“With kindness, humility, and respect for others – she is someone who always represents us and our values to a tee,” Wathen said. “She makes it easy for each and every person within the program, be proud to call her a captain.”
