The 2026 high school football season is just around the corner, with games kicking off in mid August for GIAA and SCISA programs, with the GHSA getting its season started the following week.
The Greater Savannah area returns a wealth of top-tier programs and talented players.
Benedictine is coming off a run to the Class 4A state title game, where the Cadets were edged 42-39 by a strong Creekside squad at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. BC will play in Class 5A this season and the Cadets have a rugged schedule starting off with a pair of state runners-up in Toombs County (Class A Division I) and Hebron Christian (Class A-3A Private) followed by Camden County, with all three games set for Savannah’s Memorial Stadium.
Calvary Day made a run to the Class A-3A state finals last year where the Cavs lost to Hebron Christian 28-21 at Mercedes-Benz. The Cavs have the talent to win it all this season and have early non-region tests against Jenkins and St. Pius X. The Cavs are back in the same region as cross-town rival Savannah Christian, playing in Region 3-2A and are set to host SCPS in their regular season finale on Nov. 6.
Bethesda Academy won the SCISA Class 2A state crown with a dominating win over Pee Dee Academy last year to cap an undefeated season. The Blazers are read to defend that title and have some big local matchups on their schedule as they play at Savannah Christian on Aug. 28 and host Savannah Country Day, which moves from the GHSA to compete at the GIAA level this season, on Sept. 25.
