Bengals cap space update heading into training camp

The Cincinnati Bengals head to training camp with little in the way of salary cap concerns.

Thanks to some shrewd, modern-like moves, the Bengals have a wealth of free cap space going into the summer months and regular season itself.

As of this writing, according to Over the Cap, the Bengals have roughly $16.4 million in free cap space.

The Bengals had less space than usual after the shocker of a Dexter Lawrence trade and the costly trip to free agency. But unexpected-yet-welcome items, such as restructuring Joe Burrow’s contract, helped create more space.

Keep in mind that while the $16.4 million doesn’t seem like all that much, the Bengals always have other levers they can pull to create more space. Think, other contract alterations, cuts, etc.

Looking ahead, the current cap space wouldn’t stop a free-agent signing (in response to injuries or otherwise) and contract extensions for certain players could even free up more space, to name a few of the upcoming angles to watch for during training camp.
