Tyler Johnson (b. Aug. 4, 2004) is a transfer offensive lineman from Auburn who is majoring in sociology. I am projecting him to serve as our backup left tackle behind returning starter John Pastore.

Johnson played in three games in 2023 as he retained his redshirt, seeing action against UMass, Samford and Arkansas, the latter of which he was in for 19 offensive snaps, with a total of 36 total offensive snaps that year.

He played in all 12 games in 2024, earning his first career start at left tackle against Alabama A&M, and was in for 92 offensive snaps — including a career-high 38 against California — and 64 special teams plays.

Last season, Johnson saw time in all 12 games, primarily on the field goal/extra point protection unit, and he also played on seven offensive snaps against Ball State. This reduction in playing time probably led to his transfer.

Johnson prepped under head coach James Wilkerson at Natchitoches (La.) High School Central, where he was rated the 25th-best offensive tackle nationally in the Class of 2023 by Rivals, while the organization viewed him as the 16th-best overall prospect in the state of Louisiana.

He also was named Central Louisiana’s No. 1 offensive lineman by CenLAPreps, was a Blue-Grey All-American Bowl invitee, and also lettered in basketball and powerlifting as a high schooler.

Johnson chose Auburn over offers from Arkansas State, Baylor, Grambling State, Houston, Liberty, Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana Tech, Memphis, Missouri, Northwestern State, Texas Tech (where he previously was committed) and Tulane, as well as interest from LSU and Texas A&M.
