Robert Lewandowski’s wife ‘scared’ of US move after Polish striker agrees to join MLS franchise

The soccer world was rocked on Monday when long-standing rumors linking Polish legend Robert Lewandowski, a free agent after his time at Barcelona came to an end, proved true.
The 37-year-old 10-time Bundesliga, three-time La Liga, and UEFA Champions League winner was announced as the latest acquisition of Gregg Berhalter’s Chicago Fire, joining through the 2027-2028 season.
Labeled “A Defining Moment in Chicago Sports” by his new team upon announcing his signing, it seems his wife of 13 years, with whom he has two daughters, Anna Lewandowska, was somewhat less thrilled about the announcement.

Taking to Instagram, she wrote, via an online translation, “I spent a long time wondering what to write here.
“I could post a photo with a smile, write that ‘we’re moving forward’ and pretend everything is perfect. But it isn’t. And I want to be completely honest with you.
“A huge change is ahead of us: a move to Chicago. And although I should be writing about excitement, today I want to tell you one thing: I am incredibly scared.”
Lewandowska, a former Polish, European, and World champion in karate, is also an author, has worked as a TV host, runs her own fitness studio in Spain, and has worked for the Special Olympics Association Poland.
She went on to write, “The past few weeks have been a rollercoaster of extreme emotions for me. Barcelona became my home. My safe place, which I loved with all my heart. The thought that I have to pack up again, leave what I built, and start a little bit from scratch again simply overwhelms me.

“As a mother, I feel enormous stress. I worry about the girls and their emotions, about a new school, about how they will find their way in a completely new world. Anyone who has gone through such a big move with children knows what a psychological burden it is for a parent.
“Life alongside an athlete is not only glamor; it also means difficult family compromises. Robert’s road at the top is a new challenge for us. I stand behind him like a wall and support him with all my strength, because we are a team.
“But as a woman, I have the right to feel fear. I have the right to feel overwhelmed, and today I will not pretend that it is otherwise.
“I’m writing this because I know many of you are also living through changes that bring fear. I want you to know that it’s normal. That we don’t always have to be strong and ‘happy.’
“I will keep going and developing my company, return to EDAN Studios (her fitness studio), and continue building the project. See you at training camp, or in my beloved Barcelona. Keep your fingers crossed.”
Lewandowski joins the Fire after four seasons in Spain with Barcelona, during which he won not only the league but also the Copa del Rey and three Supercopas de España. Despite being on the back nine of his career, Lewandowski still managed to be named to the La Liga Team of the Season three times, leaving La Blaugrana having scored 120 goals in 193 appearances across all competitions.
Prior to his stint in Spain, Lewandowski spent the majority of his storied career in Germany, winning the league with both Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund, along with a combined four DFB-Pokals, six DFL-Supercups, the UEFA Super Cup, and the FIFA Club World Cup once apiece.
In total, he found the back of the net 103 times in 187 games for Dortmund and 344 times in 375 games for Bayern. All the while, Lewandowski has also become Poland’s all-time appearances record holder with 167, while his 89 goals are also a national record.
