Shedeur Sanders keeping Colorado-CSU rivalry alive with viral moment

Shedeur Sanders may be preparing for his second season with the Cleveland Browns. However, a recent interview revealed that the former Colorado Buffaloes quarterback still has no interest in softening the rivalry with the Colorado State Rams.

At Nike’s The Opening Finals in Oregon, Sanders was part of a group of NFL players watching top high school prospects when a host introduced him as a “former Colorado State legend.” Sanders stopped him immediately and laughed off the mistake.

“No. Hold on, let’s redo it,” Sanders said. “Former Colorado. Colorado State’s like, we don’t [expletive] with them.”

The moment spread quickly online, especially among Colorado football fans who took it as another sign that Sanders still bleeds black and gold. His reaction came as little surprise to anyone who followed the Rocky Mountain Showdown during his time in Boulder.

The rivalry intensified after the unforgettable 2023 matchup, with Colorado beating CSU in double overtime and Travis Hunter suffering a serious injury. It stayed heated in 2024, when Sanders helped lead the Buffs to a 28-9 win in Fort Collins.

Colorado and Colorado State have met 93 times, with the Buffs holding a 69-22-2 edge. The teams are not scheduled to meet again until 2029, but Sanders’ comment made it clear he still remembers exactly where he comes from.
