Barcelona midfielder Gavi bids farewell to Ansu Fati: ‘You’ll always be one of my own’

Ansu Fati’s move to AS Monaco is now official after the Ligue 1 club exercised its €11 million purchase option, bringing the forward’s long spell at Barcelona to an end.
The 23-year-old spent the last season on loan with the French outfit and now returns on a permanent basis, with Barcelona retaining a future sell-on clause on their academy product.
Having joined the Catalan club at the age of 10, the 23-year-old forward leaves behind not only years of development but also close friendships formed throughout his time in the first team.
One of the strongest of those bonds is with Gavi, who took to social media shortly after the transfer was confirmed to share an emotional farewell.
Gavi’s heartfelt message
The Barcelona midfielder posted a photo of himself embracing Ansu during the club’s 2025 Copa del Rey celebrations, accompanied by a touching message.

“You’ll always be one of my own; I’ll miss you so much, brother. I love you,” Gavi wrote.
Friendship forged through difficult moments
Gavi and Ansu Fati developed a particularly close relationship during their time together at Barcelona.
Both players endured lengthy injury setbacks at different stages of their careers, experiences that strengthened their friendship as they supported one another through challenging periods.
Although their footballing paths now separate following Ansu’s permanent move to Monaco, their friendship is likely to remain just as strong despite the distance.

As for Ansu, he will hope to build on his promising last season with the Principality outfit, during which he scored 12 goals from 30 matches in all competitions.
Having put his injury ordeals in the rear-view mirror, the La Masia product will be hoping to recover the best version of himself that made him a breakout star at Barcelona not very long ago.
Gavi, meanwhile, will be focused on the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup. The Barcelona midfielder is representing Spain at the tournament, having earned a call-up after a strong end to an injury-riddled season.
But Gavi has not featured in the last two matches for La Roja after starting their opening match against Cape Verde and will be hoping to change that.
