Kawhi Leonard, one of the better players in the NBA, is receiving a lot of trade interest. It remains uncertain how much the Los Angeles Clippers would really be willing to move on from him, as reports have indicated that Los Angeles doesn’t want to trade him, though it’s been proposed that he could go back to play with one of his former teams, either the Toronto Raptors or San Antonio Spurs, according to Bobby Marks of ESPN.
“There [are] a lot of playoff teams keeping an eye on what happens with the Kawhi Leonard situation.” Marks told his colleagues. When pressed by Malika Andrews to reveal who he was referring to, he responded, “Maybe his former teams; I’ll leave it at that,” H/T Jahlil Williams.
For the Spurs and Raptors, I can understand why they’d be interested in a player of his caliber, as Leonard is still one of the best players in the world. However, specifically for both teams, he doesn’t really fit what they’re looking to do in the long term. For the Spurs to move on from multiple assets, especially after winning a championship this year, wouldn’t really make too much sense.
The Raptors, as of right now, are probably still a few years away from really being a contending team. Leonard would speed that up, but with his injury history and getting older, it’s safe to say that we don’t know what his future looks like in this league, mainly due to the injuries.
