Pascal Groß spoke the media following Germany’s 2-1 loss to Ecuador in their final group stage match. Lamenting Thursday’s loss, Groß was positive overall about Germany’s group stage performance (as recorded by @iMiaSanMia): “I think, all in all, it was a good group stage. We see every country is very good. The World Cup is high quality, but we played very well. We got two good wins in the first two games, and today unfortunately we lost. We’ll take a lot of confidence into the knockout phase, because they’ll be totally different games. Knockout games are totally different from group games. We know that on a good day, we’re very difficult to beat.”

The Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder made his World Cup debut on Thursday, playing the final 17 minutes on Thursday as the final substitute off the bench. He had one shot that went well over the bar but also completed all but one of his attempted passes. Groß will surely hope to get more time as the World Cup continues.

How do you rate Germany’s group stage performance overall?
