Few players in the history of the NBA have played longer than former Boston Celtics big man Al Horford.

Horford played a full career with the Atlanta Hawks before he ever played for another team. He made 574 starts for Atlanta in nine seasons after being drafted in 2007.

He then went on to play three seasons in Boston, prior to a pair of one-offs for the Philadelphia 76ers and the Oklahoma City Thunder, before ultimately returning to Boston for another four-year stint.

It was during the second four-year stint that Horford helped the Celtics reach the pinnacle of basketball. His second contract in Boston was highlighted by two NBA Finals appearances and one championship ring.

Last season, Horford found himself a member of his fifth career team, the Golden State Warriors.

He only appeared in 45 games last season, playing an average of just over 21 minutes per game, the fewest in his 19-year career. Despite this, NBA insider Shams Charania reported on Thursday that the 40-year-old would be signing a new deal with the team.

“Golden State’s Al Horford is declining his player option and intends to sign a new two-year, $14 million deal to stay with the Warriors,” Charania posted. “Horford, 40, becomes only the 13th player in NBA history to reach 20 seasons.”

Horford is actually accepting a raise to stay in Golden State. His previous deal had an AAV of roughly $5.75 million, whereas the current restructuring sees him bringing home $7 million annually.
