The Philadelphia Phillies have some intriguing prospects in their farm system, with Aidan Miller and Gage Wood being the standouts right now.
But Dante Nori, who thrived for Team Italy during the World Baseball Classic, and now is playing well in the minor leagues, is another top prospect worth mentioning.
And now, after the report from Shams Charania of ESPN, and as Matt Gelb of The Athletic shared, Nori’s father, Micah Nori, has just been hired by the Portland Trail Blazers as their new head coach.
Phillies prospect’s father hired by Trail Blazers as new head coach
“Just in: The Portland Trail Blazers are hiring Minnesota Timberwolves lead assistant Micah Nori as the franchise’s next head coach, sources told ESPN,” Charania reports.
The addition of Nori as the Trail Blazers new head coach is an interesting one, as Charania notes the former Timberwolves assistant is “widely regarded as one of the league’s top assistants.”
Nori’s hire is an intriguing one, but not just for the NBA, but for the Phillies as well. Now, the head coach of the Trail Blazers, and an NBA team, has a son working his way up through the Phillies’ farm system.
As Gelb shared following Charnia’s report, “Every story is local: Phillies outfield prospect Dante Nori’s dad is an NBA head coach now.”

Dante Nori is 21 years old and one of the top prospects in the Phillies farm system. The lefty-hitting outfielder is currently at Double-A, and he has a .245 batting average with a .667 OPS in 52 games this season.
He stole 52 bases last season in the minors and has 12 so far this season. While he might not be having the best year in Double-A, the Nori family did see a major promotion in 2026, as Micah Nori is now the head coach of the Trail Blazers.
This is a fun story and connection for the Phillies, as the Nori family isn’t just present in the Phillies farm system; now Dante’s father is the head coach of the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers.
