Report: Antetokounmpo to join Miami Heat in blockbuster NBA trade

Greek basketball superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo is heading from the Milwaukee Bucks to the Miami Heat in a blockbuster NBA trade, ESPN reported, citing sources.

The 31-year-old has spent his entire NBA career with the Bucks since joining the league in 2013 and is widely regarded as one of the best basketball players in the world.

Milwaukee have struggled to remain championship contenders since winning the NBA title in 2021, prompting the forward to seek a move in the hope of competing for another championship with a different team.

Antetokounmpo, known as the “Greek Freak,” was named MVP of the 2021 NBA Finals after leading Milwaukee to a 4-2 series victory over the Phoenix Suns.

He was also named the NBA’s regular-season MVP in 2019 and 2020.

In Miami, Antetokounmpo is expected to become the Heat’s undisputed leading player. The Florida team won NBA titles in 2006, 2012 and 2013.

In the Eastern Conference, Miami will face competition from teams including the champion New York Knicks and the Boston Celtics, who had also been linked with Antetokounmpo.

According to ESPN, the Bucks are trading Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis to Miami in exchange for Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr, Kasparas Jakučionis, three first-round picks, one pick swap and one second-round pick.
