The Pittsburgh Steelers have one of the top edge rushing units in the NFL and could look to trade one of them.
Pittsburgh extended Nick Herbig this offseason to a four-year, $100 million extension, and many fans had thought the Steelers could look to trade a pass rusher. Although T.J. Watt is one of the best pass rushers in the sport, Steelers insider Mike DeFabo believes they could trade Watt after this season.
“Next offseason is the right time to move one,” DeFabo wrote. “Highsmith is more likely to be traded because he’d have just one year left on his contract and my sense is the Steelers would like Watt to be a “one helmet” guy.
“However, I would seriously consider moving Watt next offseason for a haul. If he has a bounce-back season, I don’t think a first-round pick would be out of the question considering what the Browns got for Myles Garrett and what the Ravens were prepared to give up for Maxx Crosby.”
If the Steelers trade Watt, it would be a massive surprise, but it would likely bring a haul back for Pittsburgh. Watt would have two years left on his deal, but there is a potential out after the 2027 season, which makes it affordable for the Steelers to trade him.
But whether or not Pittsburgh will actually trade Watt is to be seen.
